What stage size is best for a guest speaker?

Your stage size will depend on your venue — accurate measurements are important.  For one person standing behind a podium, an 8×8’ stage or 8×12’ stage will do just fine.  If you are planning to have multiple speakers or a panel of speakers on the stage, consider a 12×16’ or 16×20’ stage.

Speaking stages are usually around 24” tall, but we can make your stage anywhere between 4” and 54” high.  (Putting your speaker head and shoulders above the crowd?  Consider some guard rails around the back and/or sides of the stage!)

What stage accessories are good for a guest speaker?

A guest speaker looks his or her best behind a podium — we have acrylic and wood podiums and lecterns.  We have folding tables and chairs for panel presentations.  Low-nap gray carpet can put the finishing touch on a professional appearance.

We have multiple sets of steps with and without handrails to get your guest presenters on and off the stage safely too!

Will I need a sound system for my guest speaker?

In a large conference room or an outdoor venue, you may wish to add a microphone and/or PA system for your presenter.  We can supply wired and wireless microphone options and speaker and amplifier PA systems suitable for up to 250 people.  We can supply mixers and sound options for bands, too!

Will I need lighting for my guest speaker?

Spice up your presentation with wireless LED accent uplights to add a color wash to the background, or really get your presenter in the spotlight with a truss system and LED lights.

Want to go the extra mile?  Try a gobo projector and custom gobo with your speaker’s name or your company logo!

VIP Stage Ride Along 2 Movie Premiere

stage decking south beach ride along 2 stages plusOn January 6, 2016 Stages Plus had the opportunity to provide the stage rental for the World Premiere of Ride Along 2 in South Beach, Miami. Celebrities from the movie in attendance included Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Ken Jeong, Benjamin Bratt, Olivia Munn, and several others. The event lasted about one hour then the celebrities went inside for the premiere after party.

The stage decking setup included about 20 decks strategically placed for photographers to stand on. Each deck had black carpet with skirting. We used a gaffer tape edge for binding.

Swan and Dolphin Hotel Stage

audience riser swan dolphinStages Plus provided (170) 8’x4’ stage decks, spread out between a main stage, a judge riser, and a few media risers. We estimated that the job would take about 7.5 hours. Thanks to the diligent work of our team, we were able to finish it up 1.5 hours early!

The main stage was about 105 decks set at a height of 4 ft. The judge riser was about 25 decks set at a height of 8 ft. The media risers were about 6 decks set at a height of about 2 ft. For safety reasons we installed about 20 feet of guard rails on the judge riser and guard rails along the backside and part of the sides of the main stage. We also put together step units for the main stage (42in) and a staircase for the judge riser. The staircase was made up of a step unit (42in) leading to an 8’x’4 deck set at a height of 4ft with another step unit (42in) on top leading up to the judge riser (8ft).

This was one of several jobs we had done for a national cheer competition at the Swan and Dolphin Hotel on Disney Properties.

Disney Stage Code Requirements

step with landingHave an event at Disney? Great! Are you aware of the Safety Codes and Regulations you must follow when holding an event on Disney Properties? If not, no problem! We have you covered at Stages Plus. We’re one of the few Stage Companies that carry equipment that reach all the Disney Property Safety Codes and Regulations, cited by the Reedy Creek Fire Department. For starters, all stages over 30 inches (2.5 feet) are required to have guard rails. We have guard rails to meet requirements of covering the rear of the stage and 50% of each side. So the next time you have an event planned at a Disney Property, don’t hesitate to contact the stage company in the know, Stages Plus!

Here are the Reedy Creek Fire Department requirements that are most important when considering a stage rental:

  • All step units must have hand rails that extend 12in beyond the first step and 12in beyond the stage last step.
  • Stages above 30 inches are required to have guard rails along the back and 50% down the sides of the stage.
  • Stages where the general public (non-performers) will be on the stage require guard rails along the back and 50% down the sides, regardless of stage height.
  • Handicap ramp or elevator must be installed for accessibility issues for non-performers (award ceremonies, kids on stage, etc). Tell us who will be on the stage to determine if code will require this. If it is just performers on stage, accessibility via ramp or elevator is not required.

NOTE: Exclusions can be made for guard rails for site line issues (ex: audience can’t see performers from the side w/guard rails in the way). This is handled separately in the permit process. There are no exclusions for hand rails on step units. Hand rails must be on all step units.
